The former Portuguese colony of Mozambique is still an unknown destination for most people. Those who find their way here will soon discover an exciting country on the rise. In the country’s capital Maputo, numerous renovations and projects are underway to carefully renovate and preserve the old colonial city. The sea is never far away and the fresh breeze often sweeps through the city. Enjoy seafood at international standard restaurants or on small sidewalk restaurants.
MOZAMBIQUE
Maputo
The capital of Mozambique has a lively atmosphere and those who visited the city during its heyday say that some of its old charm is on its way back. The city’s largest and oldest attraction is the fort where you can walk on the old walls, look at the cannons that remain since the Portuguese first took possession of the area. A must is to visit the old train station, designed and built in the early 20th century by the French architect Eiffel.
Tofo Bay
Tofo Bay is an eldorado for divers and beach lovers and boasts four kilometers of untouched coral reefs. Here you share the Indian Ocean with whale sharks and manta rays! Better diving and snorkeling experiences are hard to come by. The 8 km long beach is overwhelming and here the sun shines all year round. Sit back and enjoy the surroundings or let yourself be captivated by the underwater life.
Vilanculos
Although Vilanculos has grown and developed in recent years, it is still a rural, genuine African city with undeveloped infrastructure. Here are a few shops, cafes and post offices. More interesting are perhaps the two markets in the city where everything from car parts to coconuts are for sale. Tourism has only just begun here and the supply of goods is limited. There are some small craft shops and also young artists selling their paintings on the streets of Vilanculos.
MOZAMBIQUE
Short for MZ by abbreviationfinder, Mozambique is almost twice the size of Sweden and extends along the southern part of Africa’s east coast. On the country’s almost 250 km long coast there are several white sandy beaches.

Mozambique
Cities with beautiful colonial-style houses, carefully renovated to their former glory. “Secluded” and “untouched” describe Mozambique’s palm-clad sandy beaches. It is in the pearl band of sparsely populated small islands that this warm friendly country shows its best side where tourism has been carefully developed in harmony with nature and wildlife. White beaches, mangrove swamps, lakes, tropical greenery, freshwater crocodiles, samango monkeys, flamingos and hundreds of other bird species, dolphins, humpback whales and sea turtles.

The high probability of encountering the sea’s ‘big game’ in these waters attracts more and more divers and makes Mozambique one of the new exciting destinations for diving enthusiasts. Underwater visibility varies between 5 and 30 meters, with an average of about 15 meters.
